My name is Rosa Abbruscato and have worked in higher education for over a decade. My experience in higher education has revolved around student affairs primarily. I began my career as a Student Life Assistant out of high school and transitioned to an administrative role several years ago.
I previously was the Project Coordinator for the Office on Violence Against Women Act through the Department of Justice at a community college near the city of Chicago. Currently I am the Deputy Title IX Coordinator at The University of Illinois at Chicago in the Office for Access and Equity. My department oversees Title IX, Title VII, and ADA along with other university, state, and federal policies.
In my current role I am responsible for investigating complaints related to sexual misconduct, unlawful discrimination and/or harassment for students, faculty, and staff. I also work closely with the ADA Coordinator to ensure compliance, and assist with the university's reasonable accommodation process for employees. My department is also responsible for completing intakes, and referring complaints that do not meet the threshold for an investigation to the appropriate HR representative. I am also responsible for handling external charges received from IDHR, OCR, and EEOC. Furthermore, I provide campus wide training and education for students, faculty, and staff regarding policies and procedures.
